They are made from a soft rubber or silicone and very realistically sculpted. I can imagine that little monkey hand clutching something sharp to jam in my ear when I sleep. The gigantic blue eyes are meant to be cute but they come off as anything but. This monkey's dead eyed stare will actually follow you at times when it is "animating". I actually had to fight the urge to yell at it to "stop staring at me!

It can sit flat on its bottom and turn its body this way and that along with the head. The combination of the whole body turning, the eyes blinking, the soft flesh of the mouth opening, closing, puckering up for a kiss, or taking a pacifier or sippy cup, while making synchronized noises is pretty darn convincing. Despite my completely honest adult opinion of this item, my kids LOVE it.
It was for my son, but my 11 month old daughter ended up falling in love with it. She literally cannot keep her hands off it. She hugs and kisses it and wants to be with it constantly. It's not a baby toy though, so we are having to be careful with her. Compared to the dragon, the animatronics on this monkey are better. I remember going to the hall of presidents at Disneyworld back in the 80s and being blown away by the quality of the animatronics. If you can get past the creepy fleshiness of the hands and face and the dead eyes, you will love it.

As creeped out as I am by it, I have to admit it's pretty cool. Very well made and durable! My 3 year old son has autism and really enjoys this toy. He's very drawn to cartoons and stuffed animals that have big eyes, which this monkey also has, and he LOVES that the monkey actually seems to interact with him.
Because he's on the autism spectrum, initiating play with other children is more scary for him and so it's heartwarming to see him connect with this toy so much. He carries it from room to room, hugs it, puts it's hands on his face, etc. He's absolutely in love with it. Another huge plus is its durability. It's been thrown, stepped on and all the above and still functions perfectly. Very well made. I'd recommend it for not only every child, but especially for those with special needs.
