They are unique in that Otto employs par-3 finishing holes on two of the courses, and five and six par 3s and 5s on courses as well. None of the courses at Garland will break your back, as this resort is intended to be a relaxing golf retreat.

Swampfire and Monarch however can be imposing, with Swampfire featuring water on almost every hole, and Monarch playing over 7, yards from the back tees. Atypical of many northern Michigan golf courses, Garland is flat, resembling a heavily-wooded Florida or Myrtle Beach golf course more than a hilly northern Michigan course with elevated tees and steep elevation changes.

Garland Resort in Lewiston boasts four championship courses. Swampfire is considered a true shot maker's golf course that will have you using every club in your bag. The course features carefully sculpted fairways lined by mature pines and hardwoods leading to large, gently undulating greens, most of which are raised. The characteristics they all share are the great conditions but that is where the similarities end. Will stop again when in the area. We went to rib night last Saturday.

The ribs had 3 different rubs which had great taste. The ribs were tender and juicy. The side dishes were also excellent and the cherry IPA on draft made a great accent. The service was excellent and setting in the main dining room is always a delight. My wife and I came to Garland in remote Lewiston last fall at the end of Sept of ' Between the elk bugling and my first hole in one in my 44 years of golfing it was a draw to bring my wife's brother and my other golf buddy. The largest log structure east of the Mississippi with the elk and moose heads was inspiring to my hunter brother in law.

For sure the Fountains course is the best conditioned and newest and we played it twice. The beautiful spring budding trees made it great visually. Some water holes but not like the water loaded holes of Monarch and the Swampfire my wife and I played last fall.

Cross-Country Skiing

Man we lost a bunch of balls in the drink. All in all a great time and a nice change after four years going to Treetops which is excellent the drive over the covered bridge after hole 1 Fountains over Ref Oak drive was cool too. Swampfire opened Saturday after being closed for flooding issues. A couple Monarch holes were flooded too but playable.

Man what a bunch of water holes, whew! I consider Monarch and Swampfire similar.

Maybe turn the gas fireplaces off, I don't know. And the service was terribly slow in the Antlersbar grill, hour and a half to get a French dip. All in all a good time had by all. We will probably be back again in the future,maybe when the elk are bugling. The Lewistonlodge has some of the best tasting food I ever had! Antlers is located in Garand Lodge just walked down from our room.

We use to come every year from to but lost interest when we saw a decline in food quality and overall value. Fast forward to and it's such a pleasure to be back. From the locally-hired staff that know your name and always say hi to the great menu and great beers on tap. We all would highly recommend this place with 4 championship courses that challenge every skill level.

Once you arrive. You don't have to get in your car until your trip is done.

Thank you Garland for a wonderful experience, a great price that defines value, and making our trip very memorable.
