Usually takes one or two hours during Canberra Winter or a rainy night ie. Think of them like a large taxi company, they have a back log with heaps of calls. Taxi drivers during busy times don't necessarily keep you updated about how far or delayed. I was once helped by an off duty NRMA employee on his way home after our car broke down along the highway 50km from Canberra at midnight.
It wasn't till after our issue was resolved that we remembered to mention our membership with NRMA. Thankfully we were able to re-imburse him since we had our NRMA card. Sure, a teenie bopper apprentice with a hand held jumpstarter will get you the same results. Just depends on what you need and what you want. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Its worth to try a non-NRMA road assist too eg. Ultratune, Repco, Battery World…. Some of the non-NRMA policies might offer discounts like discounted servicing or parts ….
New cars don't really need road side assist do they? I mean it's not like the better is gonna shoot out and if a Tyre blows there is a spare in the boot. I understand what you are getting at. I think if you own an unmodified modern road car and drive it as intended ie. New cars can still break down from things like design defects, manufacturing defects and from human error. New car batteries specifically lead acid batteries can fail very easily. Its a misnomer to think that a new car is impervious to break down.
New cars usually fail because of electrical gremlins rather than mechanical ones. These things are not common but they create a lot of negative publicity when they do happen. One tip is to stay away from any new car that has just been released onto the market eg. Wait for everyone else to find all the annoying design issues. Ah kay thanks for the reply. I was just wondering cause I don't have Road Side assist since I bought a new corolla so didn't think it would be worth it till maybe after years.

Lock your keys in the car Run out of fuel Have a flat battery or tyre Can't get the car started Roadside Assistance for occasional, short distance drivers. Buying an insurance policy IMO is not just about price…. Nice to see MSY's old web designer isn't out of a job yet!
Allianz Global Assistance has their own fleet of vehicles. They do not use NRMA. Yes, but no joining fee is a HUGE bonus if you're not already a member. Just can't see the bargain here………… its the normal price?? Just a few weeks back my cars battery went flat, got owned. Lucky had this ; And yes, there is no joining fee's pretty sure.
He made me feel special and I instantly felt looked after. Well done and thank you. The app is easy to use. Unfortunately the app does not give any prices to compare with buying the battery myself. The patrol car arrive in about 1 hour. The patrol mechanic was very friendly. The old battery was tested and had reached the end of its life. So I went ahead and got that battery. I was about to ring my mechanics workshop to order a new alternator, when I decided to check the charging with my multimeter. I drop the car off at my mechanics and everything was fine.
AC scale will give about 26V as there is still an AC component.
This could have become a major expense if I had gone ahead and had a new alternator installed based on the NRMA advice. My credibility for NRMA patrol mechanics has been deal a serious blow. I just hope this is just a one off. I complained saying I never heard of so expensive battery but, the replacement was done when I found out the cost. If you do make sure find out the battery cost at first. Please let everybody know how they abuse desperate customers with unfair and very high cost!
With Australia's largest roadside assistance network and over 90 years experience in motoring, you Save yourself a bundle with deals and Member savings. The NRMA offers Members trusted roadside assistance for their vehicles along with Member discounts for car servicing, holidays, movie tickets and more.
I have to say that every single time they've been extremely helpful and caring. They're the roaming "Dads" of the Road. I've heard that this has not always been the case from other NRMA users but honestly, I've only ever had great experiences with them. I need to also mention the Roadside Assistance call centre people - they're also always extremely professional, friendly and helpful. Keep up the great work NRMA! Whatever you're doing at the moment, works! Today i called to renew it, only to find out that my work van will not be covered for towing.
Due to renew in first of January. Hopefully i hear from someone that make sense. I have always considered NRMA as a top company. Will be looking elsewhere for my cover. Over the next few hours, a myriad of phone calls and texts where received assuring me that the job was underway as we were literally in the middle of nowhere.
The time now is 3. All this was going on with very limited phone reception and batteries going down fast with no way of charging. We managed to get a call off to the daughter who drove up the 3 hrs to take us home. She did this just days out of hospital when she really should not have been driving at all.
In desperation I have now organised the tow myself, which took all of 5 minutes on the phone. People, please be warned.
Premium care consultants are unhelpful, vague, unaware of your plight and in most part disinterested. They act like they are your saviour and are so full of themselves it makes me want to vomit. Where do they get these people?
So whilst the concept is laudable, the reality is far from this. If you do take out Premium Care, be prepared to organise your own recovery as the people on the other end of the phone may as well be robots. Been a member for over 20 years and the few times that I have needed help they have been first class. Yesterday broke down at the local tip in Tuncurry and Glen from NRMA was fantastic and although the car could not be restarted he identified the problem, arranged a tow and an auto electrician to get onto it asap and then helped by driving my wife home to grab our other car.
I've thankfully only had to request service twice in the years I've had NRMA assistance, but each time they have come quickly and been really nice people, and made sure to talk me through it so I knew what was happening.
Top line assistance that I have come to expect after over 40 years with the Company. Daughter's car battery died. I rang the company and they were there in a short time, Jumped the car and advised that it was my choice to wait for a new battery, or pick one locally, which I did from the battery store that day.
The NRMA operator was extremely good. One nearly dead battery is the cry of help. Battery on it's way out, not worth the risk.
Has all the other ones. On his laptop and puts out the request. He then legs it to another job. Car bursts into life.
Hi Edfoo, I just tried to get the same deal. I accept full responsibility. For new members not existing members. The best price I have been able to get is , and that is being a gold member being with them for 20 years I think. There are inadequate resources in the area you have broken down — for example there are no tow trucks or repairers available; Keep up the great work NRMA!
Electronic receipt states hrs for payment. Could NOT fault any aspect of this job. And the reason why I have maintained my membership since December Keep up the good work. Lost my keys not long after called up and they said its not their problem and that I should call a locksmith. Yes I have keys plus added extra on my account.
Was left to fend for myself and arrange an alternative service who in contrast to the NRMA were helpful and efficient. My disappointment did not end there. I went home and checked my receipts and again called the NRMA. I was told that someone from NRMA would be in touch soon to organise compensation for the fee I had to pay the alternate service. After 2 weeks of waiting no one from NRMA bothered to get in touch so I followed up and was told that NRMA had still not updated their system to reflect me as a member!
Yet another NRMA officer got in touch with me the next day and told me they would require receipts and verification so they could repay the callout fee for the alternate service. Once I provided that I was told to wait another 7 business days for the repayment to be processed.
