What What is Plan B? Maryland Passes Free Birth Co It's like they want people to get pregnant. Not to mention all the other prescriptions they keep fucking up because "combining your three daily pills into one is cheaper" bullshit. Fuck AHA. Seems like your wife's doctor and pharmacist have no idea what your wife's goals are and what she'd be willing to pay for those goals. Or maybe you have an insurance company that doesn't give a fuck about its clients That shit shouldn't happen every 3 month refill, I do know exactly when birth controls become effective but each patient is different, and there are very few medications that come in triplicate If that's the case it seems like every healthcare professional you've talked to has sent you down the river.
Sorry dude. Yeah, there is not break in protection if she takes the pills as she would a new pack of the same kind. However, it is very unlikely that they are giving her a different formulation each time. Pharmacies will often switch the generic brand of pills from month to month for what is cheaper, but unless she is talking to her doctor between each switch, the formulation is likely the same.
If you start a new pill right as your period ends, or something like that, I forget exactly, it's effective immediately. Read the pamphlet. Most pills are effective immediately if you take it the day after taking your last old pill or on the first day of your period. The "it take three months" thing is a myth. It takes about three months for a body to adjust to the shift in hormones, for side effects to cease or persist, and periods to regulate. Yes, the pill is effective for contraceptive after a week but the process of changing pills is honestly a bitch: Last time I went on it the gyno said it was only a week.
I think your wife needs a new doctor. Pharmacy technician at CVS here. Most insurance plans cover most birth controls completely for a months supply but might be picky about whether or not they want to cover a 3 month supply fully. Plan B is over the counter completely now and you should find it next to the other prophylactics in one of those lock boxes. Some other pharmacies may still keep it behind the counter but we don't. There may be multiple brands "Plan B" is a brand but have the same active ingredient..
This seems so strange to me being from the UK. I've never had to take Plan B but for those who may need to, you can just go to the clinic and it's free. Our contraceptive pills are free, as are condoms. It's such a great service and is totally confidential, even if you are under the legal age of consent It's such a valuable resource that I'm truly grateful for. That would be so amazing, especially since some people here in the US can't get birth control items because they can't afford them.
LOL I'm forgoing sex for just this reason. That is so sad to hear, I'm sorry. Everybody gets it for free here in the UK because we have free health care unless you choose to. My local clinic is open 7am-7pm Monday to Friday and then Saturday and Sunday. And the morning after pills they stock can now be safely taken for up to 5 days after sex rather than 3.
I wish the States had this kind of system, even though I know how difficult that would be to administer.
You shouldn't need money to live a happy and healthy life. Is it to do with the traditional 'no sex before marriage' stance? There are some people still in the UK that think contraception promotes promiscuity, so I'm guessing that is intensified in the US. People don't seem to think that safe and regular sex is part of a healthy lifestyle. I'm not one of those people. Chin up, lovely. The idea is apparently if you give people access to contraceptives, they'll start fucking everything immediately.
Can't have that because the Bible says sex is shameful! Hobby Lobby case. I just fear pregnancy mostly. It can really ruin you. But yes, I think that's the main thing. Of course, lots of married people use these things too.
I don't understand this, on part time minimum wage I am able to pay rent and all my bills, eat heathily and still have a decent amount of money for things I want. Lots of condom brands give out samples through their website. Depending on how often you need them you could look into that. I'm from the UK too and completely agree - it seems insane to me to read about all these outrageous prices and having to worry about them!
I get my pill for free and when I had a condom split, I had a short break between lectures at Uni the next day, so I just walked into a pharmacy, got it for free and toddled off to my next class in literally 2mins. I can't imagine having to deal with any hassle or rush around to find the best price or even worry about scraping together enough money in a short time frame. Gosh, I now realise how much I take for granted the ease of sexual health services in the UK! I wish it was the same everywhere else.
Depends on where in the US you are. IDK of any official programs which hand out free condoms but it's certainly not difficult to get them for free from universities and certain clinics. I wish Canada had this. We have universal healthcare, but no free contraceptives except condoms at sexual health clinics or Plan B. At least the testing and such is free! Inb4 "it's not free" yes I know it is part of taxes. Americans still pay more per person for healthcare, that isn't universal.
I've had so many "it's not free" responses. Obviously taxes pay for it but that doesn't mean if you dont pay you are exempt. Taxes pay for everything. Nothing is really free. Just so you know, Target has a policy that if the online price is cheaper, and you show them, they will honor it and discount your product! I had to buy Plan B once back in college when a condom broke. I lived in a pretty red state so I was fortunate that they sold it at the convenience store pharmacy.
Unfortunately, it was their last one an they said they weren't going to sell it anymore. Sure, that'll keep me from having sex eyeroll Even then, I remember it being pretty expensive for my college budget. Is it true plan B is less effective for women over lbs and stops working once you hit lbs?
I've read differing information on this and my primary doctor didn't know. That's what they say, so my local Planned Parenthood has Ella for those over and since I'm I had to get that one. But not pregnant so that's cool. Not completely useless, but reduced efficacy. It doesn't matter if is overweight based on your height and body composition or not. A larger body requires a larger dose even if that body is a reasonable healthy size for that person's height. Lots of drugs work like this But Plan B is only available in one dose, so if you're not the right size for that dose then you need to look at other options, like Ella or the copper IUD.
Just a heads up- if you are late in your cycle or obese it may not be very effective. Make sure you take a test if you miss your period. Copper IUD all the way! It can be installed right away for emergency situations and can be left in for years of protection. Also, as far as I know the copper IUD is the only effective emergency contraceptive method for women over lbs.
It's not that it won't work though. It can still work on someone who weighs more than lbs, but your chances of it working is less in your favor. Ella on the other hand is based in BMI. I'm not sure exactly why though, but there is a newer brand called Ella that caters to women with more body weight.
It can also be used up to five days after unprotected sex typical Plan B pills are only effective up to three days after. The only downside is that Ella can't be purchased over the counter so you need to see your doctor to get a prescription. The copper T aka Paraguard IUD also works as emergency contraception and is effective up to five days after unprotected sex regardless of weight.
New information on weight limits for Plan B. Always check Costco too! You dont have to be a member to use their pharmacy, saved me hundreds before on one script. Me too, I don't even understand how their prices are that much better! I just rang one woman up before I went on break so I thought I'd share.
If this is true, this is great information for those with a KP location near them. I didn't even know but thinking on it, makes sense with KP's seeming "we do it all" setup they had pharmacies under their umbrella. Is that true? I was a Kaiser member until I lost my parent's insurance at I tried to order my usual thyroid prescription but I got a call saying I can't order from their pharmacy as I'd lost my membership.
At least in my area. Where the fuck is that? It wasn't even legal here until I believe , and you still need to go in for a consultation with the ever so wisdomful pharmacist prior to the purchase. Mexico here. It depends on your pharmacy, but it costs around dollars. I didn't know it was that expensive in USA.
It was like half my savings every time! That's awful, but at least it's still cheaper than an abortion or a baby! I've spent my last forty bucks on it before. It's a bad feeling. Just get it done Americans have to pay for the morning after pill? That's messed up! Target price matches their own website as well as other sites like Amazon which does have plan B by the way.
Just FYI: You can try planned parenthood if you have one in your area. I work in several pharmacies in Australia and some of the owners sell the morning after pill for a decent price retail price 20ish while some other owners religious each time I have heard make comments along the line of "make sure to increase the price of that to over 30 bucks as a deterrent for those irresponsible idiots". In those pharmacies I make sure to alert the girls buying the morning after pill that they shouldn't pay the full price because we have a price match policy and xyz chemist sells it online for 20 bucks so I'd be happy to price match that for you.
You are a blessing amongst the human race.
Compare prices and print coupons for Plan B (Levonorgestrel and Next Target (CVS) Plan B, A to Z: Everything You Need To Know About Emergency. A revolutionary pill, Plan B One Step Emergency Contraceptive helps prevent pregnancy when taken within 72 hours from the time of occurrence! The Plan B One Step Emergency Contraceptive contains levonorgestrel, precisely the same hormone that is used in many other birth control.
I hope puppies flood to you and cuddle you all the time. Just another FYI, a lot of birth control pills can be used as emergency contraception, here's the equivalencey chart:. I just keep a pack around, it's a lot cheaper than going the official route, and just as effective. Holy shit, really? You had to get a prescription for it though, which sucked. Can pharmacists set their own prices? I bought it in a small pharmacy in a tiny little catholic town, and it came with a lecture on not having pre-marital, non-procreative sex.
Just a heads up, if target hasa different price online, they'll match the online price as long as it has the same dpci I don't know what dpci stands for but it's targets internal product identification number. At the store I worked at, which was the first target express located next to the university of Minnesota plan b was our most shop lifted item for about a month.
They didn't move it behind the counter but they did put it under lock and key. It's a smaller format. Instead of marketing to the "target mom" it caries more basic items and is geared towards college students. The one outside the university of Minnesota is the first one. There's another one going up in St. Paul and two more in San Francisco. Someone was trash talking unplanned pregnancies and how its not hard to prevent a pregnancy because of Planned Parenthood. I had to sit them down and explain California offers free reproductive care, but the rest of the country is not so lucky. There are two PPs in my state, one is an hour away, one is 2.
And I'm in the middle of my state, so that's the whole west and north chunk of state that's missing out. I would love a PP in my current town! It's madness that you have to pay for plan B. I'm so lucky to be in the UK and get the pill and plan B and any other contraception I want for free. We pay for other things here that people in the UK don't pay for directly, as well. I have to pay a copay which even with good insurance can get sort of large for my insulin, a drug that keeps me alive and I have to take every day.
Our payment structure is different than that in the UK - not sure why it's surprising that drugs like Plan B are also paid for directly by consumers. Especially for OTC drugs - those are rarely if ever covered by insurance.
And because you need it to live they can just put the price up as much as they want knowing that you will find the money however you can because you need it. I'm sorry, I'm being melodramatic but it scares me that the pharmaceutical companies have so much power. That's not really how it works There's more involved than just me and one drug company in this. Those cost about 5 bucks from Walmart and are easy to get.
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive and is used to prevent an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected sex. Follow the instructions on your medication and talk to your pharmacist if you have questions. Those cost about 5 bucks from Walmart and are easy to get. And I live in the south! Just another FYI, a lot of birth control pills can be used as emergency contraception, here's the equivalencey chart:. Sure, that'll keep me from having sex eyeroll Even then, I remember it being pretty expensive for my college budget.
You can also get assistance from the government if you have a low income - although this depends on your state sort of like in the UK, from what I've experienced there and been told, what each trust will allow differs, so you could get screwed because you live in the wrong place. Insulin manufacturers also have assistance programs in place. There are lots of such programs for different medications and conditions. The US system sucks, yeah, but I think all systems suck in some ways.
Take your health system - insulin pump therapy has been shown in multiple studies, for years now, to improve blood glucose management in people with type 1 and reduce rates of complications. Yet in the UK, insulin pump therapy has been difficult to get until fairly recently, and continuous glucose monitors are still nearly impossible to get. And even this depends on what trust you're working with.
Farmers and real estate developers invest trillions of dollars in labor, equipment and land yet the vast majority of Americans can quite easily afford to pay for food, water and shelter. On the other hand most Americans would not be able to pay for a 1 or 2 day stay at a hospital or emergency room without insurance. Considering both scenarios I think it's quite easy to determine which is operating under truly free and open market conditions. Of course the AMA and pharmaceutical companies have done an excellent job convincing us and our representatives of the very limited number of people that can competently allocate our scarce medical resources.
A trainee pharmacist once tried to charge me for the pill. I wasn't sure what the rules were so I paid but I got a refund later. Which I got back It seems crazy to have to pay for something like this. Free at planned parenthood FYI. They can't deny you a Plan B for being unable to pay, in case you want to get your cost down even more: If you live in a college town, try your university health service pharmacy if there is such a thing, my school has a large medical and pharm school.
I didn't know universities had pharmacies. I've heard of them having a health center, but not a pharmacy. That's gotta be so damn convenient! I'm not sure if it's common! My university happens to be totally surrounded by hospitals, and has its own university health service, which provides basic health services for free through tuition costs. But the pharmacy is open to the public too! Wife had to take this once before we got the iud. It was 80 dollars only available at the pharmacy this was 6 months ago.
I'm so glad it's getting cheaper. It's wonderful. Except for the pain she experienced from it But if this were around when I was My life would be so so different. I'm so glad they're out in the open. Cheaper would be nice but maybe we'll get there. I've also been lucky enough where the few times I've had to use plan b, it's been like right after my period. So I bet I'd be fine without it, but it's good to take it anyways, no I'll side effects for me yet. Fingers crossed. Dude, I bought Next Choice yesterday at some hole in the wall korean grocery store across the street from my boyfriend's house.
I'll know if I ever need it again Okay so I'm totally lost.. Is birth control free? She is on her parents insurance. But the catch is they are not required to cover every type of birth control. They could cover one type of pill and not another, the patch and not the ring, etc. In Canada you can get it at clinics at cost, which is less than 20 dollars. Usually, target will price match in the store the prices from their app and online. I find most of their prices are always different online from in store.
The first woman I talked to said they couldn't, but her reasoning was weak. Part of me was like, "Sister, I also work retail, that's the 'I'm not sure but I don't want to be here today so I'm not gonna look into it' voice, I know that voice, but help me out.
