Slightly below average 13 Feb , Natasha M. This resort was just okay. The pros The resort grounds were incredible. We loved all the paths around the resort and seeing the ruins. We also encountered deer on several occasions, as well as iguanas and some kind of ring tailed animal we thought might be a type of raccoon. The spa was fantastic. That was our favorite part. The rooms were clean and a decent size. The lobby is very pretty and the gondola rides around it are a nice touch. The resort has its own entrance to Xcaret, which is great.
There are plenty of pools and other activities to keep little ones busy if you travel with kids we did not this time.
There are also trollies going around the resort if you prefer not to walk. We didn't use them, but it is a nice touch with such a large resort. The food in the Hacienda was good and the buffet food was average. The chilaquiles at breakfast were good and my husband like the seafood buffet he had one night. The cons: The service in general is subpar. While we were checking in we saw 2 different guests angry with the front desk staff. The workers were very indifferent and didn't seem to care that the guests weren't satisfied with their stay.
They originally had us in a double room we are a couple and when we asked to switch to a single bed they seemed annoyed. They were able to change it, but they acted like it was a bother to do so. When we were checking out no one asked us if we enjoyed our stay. They just checked us out, snipped our bracelets and sent us on our way with as little conversation as possible. There were no other guests around so it wasn't like they were busy. In the buffet we had to get up and go over to the server more than once to get what we needed.
In the taco place we saw three tables complain about cold food, timing of food and lack of service. We also left once after not being greeted for 15 minutes. Also, don't eat the pizza. Just don't do it. You will regret it after taking your first bite. It was by far the worst food item I've tasted in a very long time. Overall, it was our least favorite resort in the area.
This is our fourth trip to The Yucatan Peninsula and we wouldn't recommend this place to friends. We did think it would be a nice choice if you were interested in exploring Xcaret park with kids, since you wouldn't have a large trek back to your resort after a long day. Other than that, we wouldn't come back. Excellent stay in Building 12 13 Feb , Frank F, We've done more than 20 all-inclusive resorts and this resort was one of the most unique. Upon arrival we were met by a hostess who escorted us to the check-in desk ,offered us a drink, and waited until check-in was complete.
We were introduced to our concierge Jessica from Calgary Canada who helped immensely with our stay at the resort. I do speak some Spanish, but it was nice to have someone who spoke English. Furthermore, a few of the staff are from English speaking countries which makes navigating the resort easier. It is true that the lounge chairs are claimed early by 8: No towel cards are used at this resort. Guests will take 6 or 8 towels and claim chairs in the shade, chairs in the sun, and chairs at the pool. I found the best method to get access to a chair is to ask the attendant at the towel station for a chair and they will often reassign previously claimed chairs, so ask for their help.
"I must say my family really enjoyed ourselves at Occidental Grand Xcaret for 1 full week and were very sad to leave. Rented two rooms for 6 of us and took my. Back to all Playa del Carmen, QR, Mexico hotels. Occidental at Xcaret Destination offers guests luxury accommodations in the heart of Riviera Maya. Located just two miles from Playa Del Carmen and less than 40 minutes from Cancun International Airport, Occidental at Xcaret.
Most guests don't return towels and leave the towel retrieval to the staff. One of the best persons to ask for help is Jack from the UK. Sorry Jack I didn't want to make more work for you, but you are the "Go to guy". Be courteous and leave a gratuity if you receive assistance. There is so much going on at this resort and often many of the activities are overlooked by guests.
Make sure to obtain the weekly schedule upon check-in from your concierge. One bright highlight was the Eco Tour offered at 3: Nestor guided us though paths in the jungle and showed us many interesting sights. My wife and I were the only two on the trek and we felt we should mention it in the review. We were shown Mayan ruins, one of the first Catholic Churches established in Mexico, as well as a behind the scene look at the Dolphin area in Xcaret park plus other things. Don't miss it. The resort, for the most part, is handicap friendly with elevators in the buildings, as well as, handicap ramps throughout the facility and, in addition, a special wheelchair that will roll in the sand along the beach and is located at the beach bar.
This type of wheelchair is the first one that I've ever seen at a resort. We were asked by the hostess at each and every food station and restaurant if we had any food allergies. I spoke with a guest that had a gluten allergy Celiac disease and according to her the chef prepared a special meal each and every time for her.
