I am 8 months preg and get no sympathy. I am often the closing cashier and when I asked about gettin different hrs last week the just gave me 2 days this week to work. AND just called me to ask if I can work 2mor and I didn't answer on purpose they left another message sayin they put me on the schedule. I dont even know what to do. They make it impossible for you to change your availability online.
I have changed mine in person and was still scheduled to work on days and times that I wasn't available to work. I checked my availability online and it said I was available to work all day on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday last week But for this week it said I was available for Tuesdays and Thursdays and they scheduled me on Tuesday and Thursday from 8amam. I have math class on Tuesday and Thursday from 9: My availability shouldn't change on a week to week basis just because they want me to work.
But for this week it said I was available for Tuesdays and Thursdays and they scheduled me on Tuesday and Thursday from 8am-1pm. Jim Morrison in Mclean, Virginia. Anybody looking for a good job, apply for Home Depot. They are hiring big time. Just go to careers.
As a person who has worked there for three months, it is a far cry from Giant Food. They treat people equally where as at Giant, they treat people like the totem poles. If you want a job at Home Depot, it's now or never. I have a lot of honors at Home Depot which I didn't have at Giant. The same thing happened to me and I have math class on Tuesday and Thursday 9: It's really unfair. Jack Kerouac in Chantilly, Virginia said: Yeah, Giant is Extremely Clickish.
They won't even promote people who have worked hard. They promoted people who have had less experience and less vigor than I. Which means that they promoted people to management who were in their little click. When I had to request the register at the second location when I worked at the first location, I took five months and they begrudgingly gave me it and made warnings to take me off there and put me back as bagger.
I worked for Giant for about 2 and a half years, both times in the bakery during second shift doing tray-up. My first year was at the Mechanicsburg location. At this store, I was given decent hours about 30 a week from 2p-8p. The hours were okay and it gave me plenty of time to get my job done and still be able to focus on the customers. In fact, when I had to move back to Lancaster due to a family emergency the Store Manager arranged for me to stay on the payroll helping the custodians so I could talk to the Giant stores in Lancaster to transfer and avoid having to reapply to Giant and lose my potential benefits.
I moved to the Centerville location and right off the bat they were giving me 4p-8p to do the entire tray-up. I questioned this and they claimed there was no hours to go around, the typical stuff. The other girl who was doing tray-up for 4 years said that she rarely takes a 15 minute break because there is no time and would usually cut corners cleaning the floor for the same reason. After much complaining I was called into the office about another issue a customer complaint about me not acknowledging them while I was wrapped in cleaning the floor I was able to bring up about how ridiculous it is to expect someone to do hours worth of work in 4 hours and he agreed.
The assistant bakery manager tried to tell me there was no excuse I couldn't get it all done in 4 hours. The store manager was apparently unaware that the schedule was set this way and said that it's supposed to be 3p-8p. For a few months things were great I was getting 30 hours a week though I did had to work 6 days a week which was obnoxious while interning in the morning some place else. One week they scheduled me 9 days in a row and it was starting to take it's toll and a customer complained that I was looked miserable and was quick to take their cake order.
Now I have been suspended pending corporate review. But, luckily the place I was part-timing at offered me full-time and I am able to finally leave this place. At both stores, I noticed the "Customer Operations Manager", which are essentially glorified head cashiers with a bachelors degree, were both quite rude to me and were willing to throw any employee under the bus to please a customer or another manager.
They both were unwilling to listen to an explanation on any issue from a regular employee. Anyone who is working here more than hours a week i. Kait J in Pasadena, Maryland. I work at the severna park giant in deli on average the shift. I enjoy my job for the most part. My manager is great and the job is cake but I work with a heroin addict alone for 2.
Yes she's nodded out in front of custumers and just last night she refused to pull her case on a very rare slow sunday at She wouldn't pull it till because she swore we closed at Even after a manager told her to.
She said no. She has been so high that every customer she handled she gave them broccoli and cauliflower salad for example instead of Amish macaroni salad and then argues with the customer of the contents inthe container. And in that instance after both the customer and I tried explaining her mistake to her she said she was done and called for the next person in line while the 5 other customers and myself stood in shock that it had just happened.
I had to finish helping her customer. Now the bigger problem here besides the heroin addict is the managers in general. They all know what's going on but will not do anything to help the situation. And she's a rehire from quitting after they offered her rehab last time. They won't bring anyone in to watch her or see anything she does. They hear the customer complaints and fix the customers but do nothing about the employee.
I run around fixing her mistakes and doing her work to get out on time so we don't get in trouble for taking extra hours and because we get written up if we leave our other closer before their stuff is done. We have to clock out together but she doesn't get in trouble. I'm the only giant employee dealing with this issue and my managers will do nothing to help me or even tell each other about these problems. They just tell me that I have to get through it and theyll talk to so and so about it tomorrow but they never do. Whenever I ask or go to tell them myself its all news to them.
I'm so frustrated. Working at Giant was to me like when fishing, trying to untangle a badly knotted fish line which the fisherman keeps tangling. I learned that I had to just cut bait. What I mean is that I would work hard and try my best to get promoted, but it didn't happen even when I requested it.
I kept doing the same thing over and over again for 18 months. Finally when I started taking courses at GMU, I knew that it was time for me to quit there and move on. I totally agree with you bababooey because I worked there from years of age and I knew from the very start that it wasn't the place for me to work there indefinitely.
For those of you still working there, you might want to consider what I said in the first two paragraphs. Lanaye Brutus in Windsor mill, Maryland. When you started you should of asked for temporary restrictions until you returned back to work. I left a message with Giant Foods, to one of the managers the other day, and no one got it! You need to talk with either of the 2 managers that are in charge of the front end - when I called them. I work at the store in Frederick, MD near Walkersville, and the lady I was talking to, she said that I she'll talk to her one of the managers , and I have class today, this is why I can't work today - from 2 to 7 is my schedule, and my last class for Windows for college is from 5 - 7: She said I may get in trouble for not coming into work today, when in fact: I did let them know beforehand by some manager leaving a note for them.
