We were in Magic Kingdom and i was wearing a birthday button. Several years ago, I believe, they did do the promotion where you got free entry on your birthday, if you already had tickets, you got the gift card.

We'd like to surprise our daughter with a trip to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Is there a better time to go? I'm guessing the downtown disney location is less busy than the magic kingdom however the later would certainly reduce travel time between locations. We were staying in a Disney Resort so we called days out from our check-in date and got an 8 am appointment on our 3rd morning. It was great because we were there before park opening and after we were done we had time to get some great pictures and then headed right to Belle's Enchanted Tales with no wait.
My girls were enchanted with the whole day fill of princess stuff. You are a wise WDW traveler to be thinking about crowds since the holidays are typically very, very busy. Just looking at our crowd calendar, the parks are neutral overall for most of the time you'll be visiting, and there are individual days that look good for Magic Kingdom. Hope that helps!
