The concept of Reinvention Chair was developed over a 15 year period. As an older person, I found the chair changed my own body after years of having a more bulky physique from being a competitive figure skater. After being in the fitness biz for 30 years, the chair was life changing. First I tried it on Pilates teachers and then competitive skaters and dancers, all of whom saw incredible results. Then my first studio six years ago, called Physicalmind studio, was born, and so was The Reinvention Chair class.

Developed by former New York City Ballet dancer Rachel Piskin and her mom Lauren, the program was originally developed around a newer version of the old-school Pilates Wunda Chair, but with overhead bungees to work your arms as well. Now with three New York studios a private UES studio, one at the 92Y, and another location in Flatiron , ChaiseFitness has expanded its offerings to a variety of classes ranging from Chaise Bootcamp to Cardio Chair to Long and Lean and who doesn't like the sound of that?

Try to go to a class taught by Rachel if you can—her classes are the best ones. The vibe: The classes are relatively small, so you aren't body-to-body with other students. Plus, we love the inviting, energetic environment they've created a far cry from the cult-like mentality of some the buzzy spin studios these days.
