Reviewed 2 weeks ago Top Shelf Golf. Reviewed January 2, Enjoyable round of golf but a little pricey. They should not be letting people out as singles. While we were playing, they let out a couples tournament shotgun. One foursome drove out to a hole in front of us and another drove to our hole. Why would they start a tournament while people are out playing? The course wasn't in super shape, the greens were spongy and clearly, no one playing was fixing their ball marks.
I was pretty disappointed. The King and Bear was another story. We played two days in under 3. It was great and the course was in fabulous shape.
We offer seasonal golf specials at Slammer & Squire and King & Bear. Our Seven Day Double Play package gives you the opportunity to play King & Bear AND Slammer & Squire within seven days for a special rate. Enjoy Twilight Golf at World Golf Village. The Slammer & Squire course is located in the heart of our golf resort near Jacksonville, Florida and is one of St. Augustine Florida's favorite golf courses. The Slammer & Squire course officially opened to the public in May and has become a favorite Jacksonville Florida.
Nice and well groomed area. Golf course was nice and relatively an open course. Greens fees were a little high considering off season. Staff at course were helpful. Have reviewed Caddyshack's separately. Unfortunately, the area seems to be set up for more shops and restaurants but is barren other than those mentioned above. There are also 3 other golf courses linked to World of Golf. We stayed in bldg 3 on the 5th floor overlooking the golf course. The golf course is beautiful! Great for the golfer. Great Exhibits and two great Golf Courses to play. Bill Murray's Caddyshack Restaurant had very good food.
The view from the balcony was amazing. The rooms were very nice.
A huge shower and a Jacuzzi in each room. This excellent area is just made for the game of golf, from the Hall of Fame to the Murray Brothers Restaurant, to the great King and the Bear golf. Juat an excellent golf visit! Flights Vacation Rentals Restaurants Things to do. Augustine Bed and Breakfast St. The pace of play was very good. From the back Stone tees, the course plays 6, yards with a course rating of The Blue tees at 6, yards Ladies will find the Green Tees at 4, The outward nine traverses through fairways lined with giant Loblolly pines, while wooden pathways and bridges guide you through traditional Florida wetlands.
On the back nine you will find generous fairways, contoured greens, and plenty of water hazards. Just behind the pro shop is a full length driving range with plenty of targets, a large practice putting green as well as a short game area that includes a sand trap. The food is reasonably priced and very delicious. The bar has all of your favorite libations as well as several domestic and craft beers on tap. Number 18, Par 4, yards. The distant bunker is a good line for your tee shot. With water running down the entire left side, there is ample room right of the green to bailout.
The subtle undulations of the green will make your last putts quite memorable and the view of the Hall of Fame across the water is quite spectacular and definitely camera worthy. Number 7, yards. Fashioned after The Redan, the famous 15th at North Berwick, the flag can be attacked either by carrying the bunkers straightaway, or better yet, by fading a tee shot.
This allows the ball to feed down to the hole. No wonder The Redan is the most copied par 3 in all of golf. Number 1, yards. The wind will dictate how difficult this hole plays. Keep your tee shot left of the right-side fairway bunkers on this dogleg right. Par — or better — is a good way to jump start your round. The last three holes are a daunting task and feature the longest par 5 and the longest par 4 on the course.
Shot placement off tee is essential on Should you choose to layup, you must avoid the left hazard as well as the trees on the right side. The Slammer and the Squire provides a challenge regardless of which tees you play from or how good you are. High handicappers will be glad to know that the greens are pretty straight forward with not a lot of hidden breaks and subtle undulations.
They are quick, running about 11 or 12 on the stimpmeter. Should you arrive hungry or get so during your round, the Legends Grille is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. The food is very good as are the portions. I can't remember off hand how much I paid, but it was reasonable for what we got. I found the course to be very "meh" but that's what I expected coming in, so I wasn't really disappointed.
The course was maintained well and was wide enough to be enjoyed by typical resort players. Very enjoyable, just not a world-beater.
It was the first of 4 courses we played in St. The people and service are top notch. I play a couple of times a week during the Spring, Summer, and Fall in Michigan, but only a few times all winter. This course is a must play if you are in the area, however it is rather expensive for me.
I can usually find some rather good courses in the area for around 30 to 40 dollars.
Would you recommend athletic wear for this place or activity? Great track in good condition - good restaurant inclubhouse. We stayed in bldg 3 on the 5th floor overlooking the golf course. Both of the gentlemen Mark and Pete were fun to hang with and made the round that much more fun the more we got to know each other. I can't remember off hand how much I paid, but it was reasonable for what we got.
If the price were a little more reasonable I would play it more than once a season. This is a nice course. The fairways are generous and the greens are true and moderately fast. The course has been one that I have wanted to play since taking lessons at the PGA golf school off of the 10th hole.
It was worth the wait. I had a great time. I met up with 2 other Golf Now players and was put into their newly formed group.
