It's expensive, but if you come hungry you might be able to skip lunch and make up the difference that way. Our waitress was never around and it wasn't just our table. No one had much food on their table. We were on vacation and didn't want to wait for another waitress stop to get the manager, then wait, and then get food that was spit in. We just left continued on our vacation and had an early lunch.
I was 19 when we went and my bf now my husband was 21 this was around 7 years ago. I really didn't enjoy sitting at a table with other people I don't know and eating out of the same plates. If you want to experience it, then go and try it. I just know that I will never go again. You will only know if you try. It's similar to the smorgasboard dining we experienced sitting with others in PA. We too never walked away hungry while here, but you can get bad servers from time to time, like casey experienced on their visit.
The doughnuts at breakfast were about the only thing we wanted seconds on and we were told you only get 1 each of those, although our waitress brought us some extra after she saw we ate almost nothing of the other offerings. Dinner had no redeeming qualities.
The ribs were cooked so long there was barely anything left and 3 of us paid extra for their "prime rib".
Sub-prime rib maybe, but that was the only way they could possibly sneak the word "prime" into what was on those plates. We go to the Dells every year and Paul Bunyans is our first stop.
