Then there are a plethora of activities that families can engage in — paddle boating, fishing, an impressive aquatic center, horseback riding, miniature and Frisbee golf, or mellerdrammers. Centrally located between Omaha and Lincoln, the park draws from both communities, according to Park Superintendent Brian Schmidt. More than , individuals visit the park for the outdoor experiences each year, according to Schmidt, with the peak period running from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The park has RV and tent camping sites featuring showers, latrines and laundry facilities, and hard-surfaced pads for the RVs. Plus, there are 54 cabins which, depending on structure size, can accommodate from four to 20 people. The Lodge has 10 conference rooms available for business retreats or meetings. Some of the more popular attractions at the park include the horseback rides May through October and the aquatic center with its three slides, wave pool and gallon bucket drop.
Both youth and adults engage in the booing, hissing and popcorn throwing when the Denman and Mary Mallory Kountze Theater presents live mellerdrammers five evenings a week during the summer.
One of the lesser-known — but informative and educational — activities available at Mahoney is its naturalist programs. Presented from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the programs cover such activities as horse care, taking a bird walk and experiencing an entertaining tutorial about reptiles.
