About Vivint. When someone trips a sensor and your alarm goes off, most security companies will try calling you before they alert the authorities. That means you have to be around your phone ready to answer the call. If the sensor trip was a false alarm and you miss the phone call from the reps, the authorities will be called out to your house for no reason. And if it happens more than a couple of times, you can face some big fines from your city and some very annoyed police officers. For that reason, Vivint added an extra step to its two-way talk feature.
When your alarm goes off, a Vivint rep can try to talk to you through the panel itself before they call the authorities. If you have Vivint security cameras, you can pull up their feeds in the SkyControl panel and watch in real time, as well as talk to anyone who might be on the other side of the lens. If you have multiple babysitters that tend your kids sometimes, you can give each one a unique code. And if you have to fire one?
Just deactivate that code in the system. We like that individual user codes link to an activity log in both the SkyControl panel and the mobile app. You can use the app to control every aspect of your security system and home automation features. Our own experience holds out those scores. If you go on a walk every day around 3: You can also use the app to set motion detectors to turn off at specific times.
When someone walks on your porch, you get an instant notification and a live feed of your porch. You can see and talk to the delivery person dropping off a package at 1: You can even unlock the door to let them set the package inside and lock it behind them afterward—all while monitoring their actions via your phone screen. We heard from one user whose dog escaped while they were away from home. A neighbor caught the dog and brought it back, and the user was able to view the neighbor and the dog via their doorbell camera, talk to the neighbor about the situation, and let the neighbor into the house to drop off the dog.
We tested a Vivint system that used door sensors on all three main entries and window sensors in all four first-floor rooms, which is significantly more equipment than comes in the basic package. The more equipment you add, the pricier your system will be—and it adds up fast. But we do like that Vivint uses an a la carte structure that lets you choose as much or as little equipment as you want. Beyond the basic equipment package, you pay for each piece individually. This means you can choose to turn your house into a veritable fortress or just throw on a few door sensors and call it good.
But Vivint takes it a step further by basing its security system on a cellular connection. What that means is Vivint equipment is hooked into a cell signal, similar to your smartphone, instead of relying on a phone line that burglars can potentially disable. Plus, Vivint uses its cellular-based system to send over-the-air software updates. Similar to the software updates you get on your phone or tablet, Vivint can keep your system up to date without having to send in a technician or making you buy new equipment.
Competitors like ADT give customers more options on that front, which is a good thing if you live somewhere with a weak cell signal. Like many home automation systems, Vivint equipment uses Z-wave technology. Want to buy a light dimmer or a smart lock from someone other than Vivint and add it onto your system? You can.
Vivint also pairs with one of our favorite smart devices: Plus, we like the way it looks, so if you want a smart thermostat, we suggest Nest. The camera alerts you and sends a live video feed to your phone anytime a visitor walks up to your door. Vivint recently released the Ping camera. Similar to the doorbell camera, you can hear and talk to people on the other side of the Ping camera. Video calls aside, many Vivint cameras, including the doorbell and Ping cameras, have motion-triggered recording, night vision, and HD recording—all of which make them top-notch equipment.
In the past, customer service has been where Vivint falls a bit short. I wasn't told till after I had signed the contract that I had a three day period to decide if I liked the system, if I hadn't asked no one would have told me till it was too late. I thought that the first three days were okay and that it was a reliable company so I didn't think anything of it, queue a few days after that when the front door lock stopped working.
The equipment is always defective, if we want the front door keypad to work we have to change its batteries every week otherwise it just dies. When the power goes out the system should have rechargeable batteries that last a minimum of 8 hours and then when the power comes on they should recharge, they don't. We got notifications for days afterwards that the battery in the control panel was depleted and had no real way of changing it without calling them.
All the company cares about is your money, the only reason they call is if you miss a bill and any other problem you have they don't really care and don't give it the effort they should to have it fixed. Their account website is also terrible, I tried to go find my billing information, I even looked in the FAQs and followed the link they provided to find it and it wasn't there. So pretty much everything about this company and their system sucks.
Learn from my mistakes and don't rope yourself into this company and their product. After finishing a 3 year contract with them, I can tell you I'd rather have Charles Manson guard my house than these guys! Broken promises, deceptive practices - you name it, they'll do it! Had Vivint installed in both my home and my business 2 years ago. Sales guy gave us the spiel of all the wonderful benefits of why we should switch from our current home security system to theirs. One was that they give you 1 free move per contract. I told her about our free move and she said "yeah the sales people promise that but we don't actually honor it".
They blatantly lie to obtain customers knowing full well that the promises made will never be honored? I demanded to speak with a supervisor, which conveniently none were available. She did have another "deal" for me though.
Yet, it has a fantastic product to offer. You're right Connie! System goes off line, cameras go off line to much and now we are experiencing false alarms during early morning hours disturbing my family beyond belief. All Vivint packages require professional installation. You may also be interested in Vivint versus ADT. Had one of their reps come to my door, I was reluctant to hear him and before he continued I checked the reviews first and as you can tell they aren't that great. Another time of the year to look for special offers is during the month of July.
We will give you a free move IF you resign a contract with us. I asked her if she was joking? Why on earth would I ever resign with a company that flat out lies to it's customers. After much back and forth she did give me my free move I suggest you get every promise your sales rep makes in writing!! We have spent hours and hours on the phone with them rebooting the system and waiting for them to arrive and fix the system. Their update caused the system to only use the loudest volume when set and disarmed.
So when I would get home late or leave early, it woke the entire family up. It lasted for two and a half months and I had to call them to find out of the bug was fixed. When I asked what they were going to do for us for the inconvenience, they said So needless to say I would not recommend this company. I went through getting all the security equipment on my own and finding a different monitoring company. The main difference is that the equipment is not connected thru only one App as the Vivint system is. So I actually have four different apps One for cameras, one for smart door ring bell, one for smart control garage opener and one for the window sensors which is ending up being a pain in the butt.
I've been trying to get my cameras working for 3 weeks. I've spent countless hours on the phone with tech support. I've had 2 service techs come to my house. I've swapped out the cameras with new ones. The tech even tried a new camera from his truck.
Bottom line, cameras will not record via motion sensor. May possibly be my panel needs to be replaced for a new panel model and new cameras doorbell camera. The old panel will be obsolete by years end due to not communicating with Vivint towers. I've just sent back the 2 old cameras and 2 new cameras. Now I spoke with a customer service manager, who I think hung up on me when I declined his solution.
Are you kidding me? Why should I pay for a camera that is not working at no fault of the user. Why should I pay for a panel upgrade when the panel is becoming obsolete at no fault of the user. Vivint needs to stand behind their product more than having users pay for upgrades. Also they have a 42 or 60 months contract for you to pay for all the equipment. Also, the sellers are very good, but Vivint does not have enough controls to verify all his promises and you barely have three days to cancel the service without any penalty and also maybe a repercussion in your credit score since you are entering in a five years loan to buy the equipment.
I contracted to have one of their security systems put in my business.
They never completed the job, left cameras sitting all over the floor, so I had them remove the system. I really happy with their products.
As we were using other home security for 5 years as it failed due to the minor mistake, Moreover my grandmother was living alone. So we decided on switching other security camera company. After that, my friends told about Vivint company. Now I am very happy this company and it is easy to use. System wise, excellent, very sophisticated and up to date.
However, I do not recommend getting involved with them on a door to door level, and if you do, make sure that they don't sell you with lies. The door to door sales representatives will lie to the bone to sell you and get you hooked on a 5 year contract. We had the worst experience with them because the salesrep was not honest from the beginning; it was lie after lie after lie. We so regret canceling our prior security system to go to this bunch of lies and deceit. Now I have to waste my time calling them to get everything straightened out. Better to go through it on your own with a site like this or referral so you don't get coerced into doing something you unsure of.
A- is an excellent rating and it's looks like the company knows that since they are more expensive than anyone else. My question is, is there service better than the others. If it is, than I would say it's worth the money,. Good to know. Do you get any kind of a discount on their home security if you combine with their solar or wireless offers? Hey Charles, You can combine services but you currently don't get a 'sweetened' deal for doing so.
Energy innovation will continue to change as well as practicality of Solar panels like all technology. At least with a wireless Vivint security system you can update every years some of the equipment if it has 'gone out of style'. The same can't be done with solar panels. Best of luck,. We researched for a long time before we finally decided on Vivint. We have had a few false alarms since getting it activated which was frustrating at first.
They worked with us and came out and switched up the sensors some and things have been good since. It might have been a bad tech the first time or something else. I have had the service in my house for about 6 months now. It offers exactly what we are looking for in a home security system. I am not a fan of their customer service though. Maybe they spend too much time and money going after new customers instead of keeping up with existing ones. Great equipment and features, not great customer satisfaction at least for me.
I'm sold on this, to be honest. I've always been a fan of gadgets and the sleek, luxury feel Vivint does so well is exactly my thing. The slightly higher cost is negligible in the face of that. I love my system. I have state of the art equipment and feel really safe in my home finally. Yes it's a little more expensive but to me it's well worth it. I've had a few instances were my drunk neighbor tried to enter my home and the alarm going off, stopped him. Scary for me, but finally found a solution for my problem.
I just had to mention my experience here. In late May I had Vivint security system installed and I was in shock. From the start to end process, it was super fast, easy to follow, and they works with my schedule.
Since then, I have had no issues at all and I am very happy with this company. I wish Vivint wouldn't part in so many different ways right now with everything they have going on. It seems they are on a mission to take over all your homes utilities. Some users may like this but for now I am going to stay with a standalone security provider.
I was thinking the same thing. I recently dropped them. They have nice services but they aren't for me. I am a bit paranoid with all the tech advances happening so fast.

I don't want one system having control over my whole home. That is just a scary thought for me! By far the most product knowledgeable staff on any product ever created that I have been willing to pay top dollar for. They gave me a demo of the product at my house as well before I had finalized signing the agreement. Being the parent of an autistic child is very challenging, specifically when his sleeping pattern is so off that we the parents are completely exhausted.
I had my Vivint system for a while and actually was planning on opting out of it because I had more "important things" to take care of. One day while at work, the person I left in charge of my child fell asleep, my 3 year old wanderer was actually opened the door, and the alarm send me an alerted me. I called home to make the sitter aware of the situation. That alarm didn't stop a stranger from entering, but it stopped my son from being harmed or taken.
Vivint is on the pricier side, but I am still interested. I mean, if you pay more within reason and get better quality, then it's worth it. Not to mention that while it costs more than some other options, but it still isn't that bad. I always felt that if I were going to get a home protection system, I would want one that is installed by a professional. This one looks like they offer that option and from reading so definitely going to give them a call, thanks for the information.
You're right Connie! Several of the companies now a days only offer Do it yourself installation which can be a pain for the average user. Do not go with this company. Their equipment sucks and does not work. I called to cancel within a 30 day time period and was told that I only had 3 days to cancel. Nothing I have from them ever works.
From the sensors to the cameras, to the door locks. It all looks pretty in the package, but who cares when you are trying to protect your home and the product does not work. Today I had a technician out and he messed up my cameras. The worst customer service I have experienced. I only wished I would have stayed with ADT. At least their system worked. Thanks for the tips, now it is clear in my mind that I should keep the system I have with ADT and get rid of the landline. Apologies that it didn't work as planned for you.
For me the system has been flawless and when I wanted to move they said I can leave the current system in the home and just pay a setup fee for my next place and get their latest equipment. I agree, Vivint is a difficult company to do business with. They don't answer phones, they keep you on hold forever. Their tech support is subparr. The Smart Drive doesn't record the security cameras, they can't solve the problem. Cancelling is very difficult and this system was just installed.
I have been with Vivint for over a year now and I have a few pros and cons. The pros are that they are easy on the wallet despite what many think, they end up being consistent and affordable. They don't over charge which is great. They also installed the day I called and had everything running beautifully.
As for the cons, their customer service isn't the best. I have called about an issue 3 times and it took them 6 days before I got a response on the manner. Not a huge deal but they need to improve on that. Over all I am happy I went with them. I had this issue with another company and ended up canceling with them over it. I am debating on getting a new system or not but I am beginning to think all companies have this issue so I wouldn't hold it against them as a con.
Vivint sounds great, I will have to see if they are in my area. It looks like you have come to the right place. This website has a ton of reviews and comparisons to read through. You should be able to make the call sooner than later! Everyone I asked at work recommended ADT.
I was about to go with them and my brother stopped me. He told me about Vivint and I honestly never heard of them before. Well after I spoke with someone on the phone about their offers, I was still on the fence. The man I spoke to, his name was Dan, and this man gave me a discount just because I wasn't sure. He even threw in a free upgrade and after I got everything set up, someone else walked me through using the mobile applications.
I was in contract with ADT prior to meeting with a Vivint rep. After approaching me at my home, my initial reaction was to shut the door in this guy's face. But after realizing it was a Saturday, I was doing nothing anyways, I gave the guy five minutes. He went on to tell me about the features and functions that set them apart. Now, I don't care who you are, you simply can't be impressed by the things Vivint does.
They really have some interesting stuff. I liked the idea of it all and I decided to let him inside so we could talk numbers. That same day, my system was armed and ready to go. I worked with my settings for a day or so and had my system tailored the exact way I wanted.
I've only had to call in customer support for a couple different things! Besides that, switching over was an easy decision. Can't wait to see the new stuff coming out. Vivint really is a great company. Happy camper! Thanks for posting this review. I find Vivint pros and cons everywhere I look. It seems they hide so much up of who they are and I know they have very pushy sales techniques but all you hear about them on the positive note is their equipment.
I'm not sure I want to take the ride with them for equipment I could get with ADT pulse and save more money then pay extra with these guys although it is enticing. Had one of their reps come to my door, I was reluctant to hear him and before he continued I checked the reviews first and as you can tell they aren't that great.
However, after I let him talk the product looked interesting and it came with a trial period so I chose to try it now. So far I love the system. Really easy to use and I'm glad I chose to go with the rep. The system is great and I wish some of the people who had bad experiences could have had mine because so far I love my smart home.
I asked them about trail options and they said they didn't have any. I was so bummed. I told them to call back if they start one because I really need to try before I buy. I never had a security protection system. No BBB isn't a big deal to me but the equipment is. I like how they are innovating in the home security niche and can't wait to try out their latest 'Sky' panel as well as camera door bell. Hey Frank, if you are looking for a trial option go with our 1 choice, Frontpoint who has a 30 day money back guarantee.
You can still choose Vivint as you have a 3 day right of recession with any company or product you buy. I really don't care about those BBB ratings. To me, Vivint is as tasty as the most exotic orange found anywhere on the planet. People need to experience their service just once and I'm sure they won't ever in their life be able to go with another option. There's a certain class about their panels, cameras and other gadgets which the equipment of other companies just don't have. Love it!!!
Their equipment does seem cool but nothing ADT Pulse doesn't have and then you don't have to do the 60 month contract with auto renewal.
Not a lot of bad to say about this company but most people that get them feel pressured too from their door to door sales rep. ADT pulse doesn't have the door bell camera, a smart thermostat, door locks, or the Amazon echo which now is synchronized to the system allowing you to control the whole thing by voice. Vivint does so I am going with them for these reasons although ADT pulse is a good system not saying that it's not. It has been worth every penny and we have always had prompt service to fix anything we need or just answer questions.
Our utility bill is lower and we feel safer being able to have so much control over our home. Highly recommend!
I have had vivint for a number of years and am very happy with their services. Also the price is lower than most. I have had Vivint for 2 years now and could not be happier. The salesman and the installer were kind and very helpful. Just yesterday 3 men came to my door stating they were from Vivint and were doing an upgrade. The asked a few questions and I became uneasy about who they claimed to be.
I asked them to leave and one of them asked me for my password. I told him if he worked for Vivint he would know that and asked him again to leave this is when I noticed his ID at the bottom of his jacket and the name of the company was North Star. Checking this out North Star is a door to door company. I have them on my camera and I will be glad to do whatever it takes to put them behind bars if they show up again. They not only pounded on my door but also looked into my picture window and started pounding on it. I should have called the police. What a bunch of jerks! Thanks for the share Maria!
