Yes you need a reservation, they are made two days in advance, we were lucky to find the reservation host off hours and made a reservation one day in advance on our day of arrival. The buffet is outstanding, so you won't be disappointed trying it on day 1 or 2. There is one main buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are three that require reservations and you need to be in line by 9am to get them. Only can reserve three days in advance. For the speciality restaurants you have to make reservations. This is true of all RIU resorts. So it is a pain. There are only 3 restaurants and they are all not open every night. No reservations needed for the restaurant. This was an awesome surprise! There were several families with kids at the resort during my stay, but compared to other resorts this resort is a bit limited for kids, if my kids were young i might do something different, but older teens might enjoy the slightly older atmosphere.
This is a quiet resort. There will not be many kids around to make friends with and play with. However there were plenty of family activities. Volleyball water and beach , ping pong, kayaking, plus basketball and other family friendly activities. Yes was kid friendly there was no adult only section at this resort. Daiquin Lobby bar. Calypso Lounge bar. Coco's Bar Poolside and beach side bar. The bars are open till the pool closes which is early in the evening before supper is served. However there are other bars still open after the pool bars 2 of them close. There is no swim up bar, but the bars are close to the pool. In fact when I was there a couple of the workers would bring you your drink in the pool.
One bar closes at 5pm the other beach bar closes at 6pm, but drinks are still available at other locations on the property and you have a full minibar in your room. Hope this helps. There is no entertainment at night. From my understanding this RIU in St. Martin just opened a year ago so they are still working the kinks out. There is entertainment and dancing at the resort, however, it's over around midnight. So if you are looking to stay out longer than that you have to go off the resort.

When I was there I didn't see any in the pool, but I did see them walking around the edges of the pools.
I'm not a fan of them myself, however, if you don't bother them then they won't bother you. Yes the Iguanas are everywhere. Typically saw 5 just walking to the beach.
There are a few large ones that hang out by the pool. They do not come near guests and often the guests are stalking them for photos or to pet. The iguanas did hang out around the pool area and on the grass in some areas, they are very friendly - people were touching them and they didn't do anything - they keep to themselves and do not bother the guests.

The electrical outlet in the US is volts, whereas in France it's volts. Do we need to bring a voltage converter at the resort? Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated! As for the outlets, they are V, so we do recommend bringing a converter. We had wifi everywhere in the hotel, our rooms and the beach. It can be alittle spotty by the pool depending where you sit. It was strong in the room, reception area, etc. Out on the beach I had sporadic access. I am from the US also and we asked the front desk for a converter and they gave us one to borrow for the duration of our stay. There is also a strip of outlets near the TV I'd say 4 or 5 that you can charge your cell, camera, ipod, etc with. Regular US cables. There are plug ins compatible with us cords. Wifi is free.
