Room was clean and tidy but the en-suite was tiny. Took about 10 minutes for hot water to come from the shower. Water pressure was also poor.

We booked table for 6pm as girl at reception said there were some big parties coming in. Restaurant got very busy with three large groups of about 18 each table. Our starters were Prawn Cocktail and Pate. Both were very tasty and not skimpy.

Main meal was Rump Steak and Duck Again, both large portions and very tasty. The bottle of house Rose was passable but a bit bitter. However, all in all a pleasant evening meal served by cheery and attentive staff. Breakfast is fine as long as you take the cooked breakfast. Otherwise it is cereals only. No sign of any fruit. Watery, sweet orange juice.
Had to make your own toast on the slowest toaster in existence! Prepare your own tea and coffee. Poured my coffee from the pot on display, took one sip and left it beside the pot. Took a tea bag and added hot water from another pot.
No menus on view, so the cooked breakfast was a surprise. It actually was very good and filling. However, no marmalade available for the toast. No complaints about the waitress who was friendly enough. I certainly would not return if I had to pay full price for what I experienced. Arrived for a family lunch at approximately Restaurant did not look too busy, we were shown to a table quickly.
It is important to note that we asked if All day breakfast was stll being served, to be told it was on until noon. Our order was taken along with the two childrens meal and - one breakfast, along with drinks. Drinks arrived after about 10minutes. Then it all seemed to spark off, it was obvious that they had another large party in an annex, and had we been told that and that the meal would be delayed we would have accepted that , and look else where. But were were told it would only be a few more minutes. After a further 15 minutes I again approached a staff member and asked to speak with a supervisor and was directed to a young lady who was rude, incapable of listening and could only recite" we are not a fast food restaurant- all our food is freshly produced to order" I asked how long she thought is should take to prepare four sandwiches, a breakfast and two kiddies meals- yes fish and CHIPS and sausages and CHIPS.
After another run in with said supervisor we were ready to leave, I had asked for the bill for the drinks, to be told it the food was just coming. Customer service I think not. Wont be back and if you value your time and money neither should you.
We had an excellant groupon deal which gave you so much for the money. T food definately makes this hotel.
However, had this been a full priced stay I would of had several complaints. We were in room 7 which was very. Big room, big tv but we had no water coming out of the cold tap from the bath which ment I had to use the shower head to put cold water in the bath. The fitting piece to enable thre shower to move up and down was broken and stayed at the highest position. One week before arriving I phoned up to request one bottle of non alcoholic wine with our deal instead of alcoholic.
I was offered a choice of 3 which was good and told that it was no problem. However, at our meal we were told that they had been let down by suppliers, which I think was rubbish. We did get 2 soft drinks each instead.
We booked a table for 8pm but we were seated in the bar rather than in the nice resturant area which was disappointing because it was a celebratory meal with our son and his wife for our anniversary. Although the food was excellent, we were extremely disapointed to be told there were no mussels or scallops or braised pig cheaks. This after being told about the wine situation. My sons starter was wrong first time and he had to wait on another. One of my prawns was dropped on the floor, which was just a mistake and could happen to anyone but I was never offered another one and it was not picked up off the floor by the waitress.
My starter was to include wasabi sauce but came with an alternative which I think is so bad when it clearly stated it on the menu and Iwas looking forward to it. It is a busy place but the staff shoud of been much more attentive. We were not told when the breakfast ended and we went down at 9am and most of the stuff was being cleared away.
We were very casually told what the cooked breakfast consisted of and that was after us having to ask. Lukewarm tea and coffee and no fresh butter without asking and no jam just marmalade. A family came in at around 9. They were seated and did get to order but nothing was sitting out by then. I felt sorry for anyone who paid full price and was not on the deal. On the whole, excellant value for money but sour faced staff with a shoddy approach spoiled it. Thankyou to the couple of young girls who actually were very nice in serving us.
I ordered scallops which where awful tasted as if they had been cooked in dirty tainted oil, also had a gritty texture, there was loads of staff just hangining around at the back till and you had to keep asking them for things, the table of 4 next to us had a order mixed up and they served 3 out of 4 main meals and when they where finished the 4th person got his meal. Stayed here for a night which was on an offer. Scones and tea on arrival which were lovely. Bar and restaurant were packed but the staff made time for us without any hesitation.
Room small but adequate, we had a good sleep there. Bathroom tiny but fine, no problems with hot water or anything like that. Our 2 course dinner was the choice of the menu and we both had an excellent meal.
Breakfast was very good too. We would definitely go back there, it is a nice place and the staff were very good. Me and my partner have been going to the Coachman for many years as he is originally from Kilsyth and we have always loved the food We went down and was given a table from the young waitress after she couldn't find our booking, which was actually on a post it note.
The waitress took our order, we both ordered starters and Steak pie, I asked if I could have mine with potatoes as I don't eat chips to my astonishment I was informed that as it was a set menu at a set price I couldn't have potatoes but was offered a side order to which I said I had had potatoes before and the waitress replied the manager doesn't allow us to change chips or the veg, I told her I know its not your fault but it is ridiculous, Myself being a chef found this dreadful as there are a lot of folk out there that don't eat chips and everything on their 2 can dine menu was served with chips.
We opted for a glass of wine with dinner which I couldn't even drink it was like paint stripper it was vile, the starter was served to the table or should say thrown down at us the waitress asked who was having the pate and threw it down and then threw my Prawn cocktail down there was no interaction other that that, no eye contact or enjoy your started The steak pie arrived and the pastry was slightly burnt, but there was no flavour to the meat and the gravy, it was as if the stew had been boiled on its own and then a pot of flavourless gravy poured on to it, we will most definitely not be back TripAdvisor uses cookies to improve your site experience.
