The managers only wanted to give us coupons for a free appetizer next time we visited. We were astonished, as I am a service major and one of the first things we learn is that in a case of a mistake, you ALWAYS go far and beyond to fix it so the customer s only remember what you did to fix it, and not the mistake. I have a coupon for a fee appetizer, but I am sure I will never use it, because they have lost my business, as well as many of my friends who have heard about this story!
They can't believe what happened! How is it that a "fine dinning" restaurant in town, Cafe Eccell, doesn't even come close to what a chain restaurant, TGIF's, did for its customers in terms of fixing a mistake!?? Growing up in College Station, I have definitely seen the town grow and develop and new restaurants pop up here and there. But one that has succeeded in making their mark in College Station is Cafe Eccell. A great menu backed with great chefs! The food is amazing. When I finally turned 21, I decided to take all my closest friends ages ranging from 21 to 30 to my favorite restaurant and finally get to try their delicious drinks from their well-put-together drink menu.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were greeted by rude hostesses who didn't seem to know where to seat us in a nearly empty restaurant. After waiting about minutes for them to put together a table for our party, we were finally seated with the wrong menus. When I asked a random server in passing if I could get a new menu, he tried to tell me that the lunch menu and dinner menu were exactly the same, then assumed that I wanted to order a sandwich on the lunch menu.
After that, we got situated and someone brought us waters. After looking over the menu for about 10 minutes, and still having no server greet us, we were all confused. We waited another 5 minutes, and still, no server. Finally, my friend got up to ask the hostess to send over a server so we could all order some drinks and our dinner. Even then, we waited another 10 minutes until a server finally showed up. He apologized for the wait, but did not seem genuine about it at all. The only good thing about the whole experience was their amazing food. Other than that, everything was awful. Because of this, I decided to go back and give them another try.

Two more times I've visited, I've had to wait over 15 minutes for a server to greet the table after being seated. Their service is horrible, and they don't even seem to care. I hope their managers realize this, and things improve, because I love cafe eccell and love contributing to locally owned restaurants.

I made a reservation at Cafe Eccell for a Thursday night. My party waited 45 minutes for a table. The place was packed, but what is the purpose of making a reservation if the restaurant does not honor it. The front door greeter was clueless--completely unable to give me an accurate estimate of when my table would be complete.

We finally got a table in the noisy, center room and were promised a "complementary" appetizer because we had waited so long. The Mediterranean appetizer turned out NOT to be complementary, but it was delicious all the same.
My party was hungry and mad that we had been sitting for so long and the walk-ins continued to populate the palce. Had it not been for the amazing interpersonal skills of our waitress, Ani, the night would have gone from bad to worse. Ani was wonderful, carefully explaining the food, preparation and ingredients. I had people from 12 to 85 and she found everyone's comfort level with the best dish for their preferences.
When the food arrived, everything was cooked to prefection. Hot, flavorful, delicious. I especially like my voodoo blackened Redfish. The deserts were equally good.

Overall, a pleasant experience. Restaurant is non-descript! Not much on decor and pricey for lunch. Known for their strawberry tarts, but ran out the day we visited. Bathrooms were awful I have seen better in a true Mexican Cantina on the border of Mexico. Own or manage this property?
