I stayed at the Renaissance for a week with colleagues from the USA. Due to a mistake on the part of our corporate travel agent, the US contingent had reservations while I did not.
This was quickly and expertly taken care of by the front desk staff and within minutes a room had been found and my bags whisked away to be unpacked there by the butler. And it just got better and better. Very attentive staff, discreet lobby and lounge entertainment, superb food and a very comfortable room. None of this came cheap nor was it expected to but on the whole it was good value for money, you certainly came away feeling satisfied that everyone involved had worked hard to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one.
The weather was awful monsoon rain but the hotel was well prepared for it and obviously used to dealing with sodden guests as anyone who appeared even slightly damp was fussed over and offerd towels and so on as soon as they crossed the threshold. One area where the experience was less than perfect was security. Our car was stopped at the gate and subjected to hood, trunk and underside mirror searches before being allowed to proceed to the hotel entrance. Bags were then passed through an airport-style conveyor and scanner while guests had to walk through a metal detector. At first this was very reassuring given the number of terrorist attacks in Mumbai over the years but after a while you began to realise that it was impossible to see anything in the mirror-on-a-stick when it was pouring rain especially as the guard was not even looking at it.
Similary, the metal detector screamed blue murder at my belt buckle but I was waved through anyway by the smiling guard without further ado. More often than not my laptop bag was scanned but no-one was actually sitting looking at the screen. I would normally have thought this behaviour merely lazy or quirky but after the massacre at the Oberoi I hope the Renaissance has started to take security more seriously.
We had planned a holiday in a different hotel in mumbai, as we had a very long weekend. Unfortunately because of service issues, we decided to stay over at Renaissance. I have been their Prestige Member since past 4 years. Quickly called up Renaissance reservations and booked ourselves 2 rooms. The Hotel is slightly in the interiors of mumbai, at powai. Check-in was clearly a breeze. Within 5 minutes all formalities was over. Luckily, we were upgraded to Lakeview rooms at same cost. The Best part about this Hotel is the choice of Restaurants.
You have choice to have buffet meals at their lake view cafe, Chinese food at the Emperor's court, North Indian food at Nawab Saheb and Italian food as well at their newly opened Fratalli Fresh. Not to forget, their is a night club called Velvet lounge and "A" bar where you can unwind with drinks and cocktail snacks.
The Hotel has a very comfortable swimming pool where you could actually spend hours in water and beat the heat, take sunbath around the pool or rejeuvenate at their Spa and Health club. Most Importantly, Renaissance's responsive to their Guest's needs and service levels is truly impeccable! We had a terrific time at the hotel. If location is not a constraint, than Renaissance is definitely the place to stay!
