We did pass through a few nice areas near the Trinity River and downtown Fort Worth. I can only hope the section from Grapevine to the Stockyards is better. Outbound, the train loped along at a rather slow pace; the return trip was much faster. The inbound leg was really fun, with the wind in our hair on a warm late summer afternoon! One advantage the GVRR has is its location. Running as it does through a major metro area, the train is accessible to a lot of potential customers.
By comparison, many tourist trains operate in out-of-the-way areas that require travel just to board them. This advantage, however, is also the line's major weakness, as the route doesn't offer great scenery like those out-of-the-way lines. Our party of six consisted of two ish folks, two ish folks, and a pair of under-three children. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon immensely. Just be sure to spend some time in the Stockyards before or after the ride.
This made our whole trip to the Dallas area!! This does sell out of seats, so make a reservation in advance. The ticket office staff were polite and very helpful. The train staff were very informative and accomodating.

We chose the open air car and it was a gorgeous 70 degree day. We stopped once going to Ft. Worth and once coming back for another train to pass. The ride was very relaxing and fun. The train staff came around asking if anyone needed anything brought to them. The time in the Stockyards was a bit short for us-3 adults as it was Frontier Days, but for kids this was probably just enough time. It is so fun how the train pulls right into the Stockyards Station. All in all it was a great value and loads of fun and we would do this again. I highly recommend this trip.

Perhaps the most brutal travel experience of my life! Who takes this to keep it viable and who are the people writing the glowing reviews. This was the least scenic least entertaining and least educational tour I've ever been on. The cattle run was a slooooooooooow crawl with clearly heavily sedated bulls! It is unbelievable that this tour continues to function.
